The story of Green Golf Impact
As competitive junior golfers, we would finish a round of golf with a half dozen golf balls that were used but still functional. We would toss these used golf balls into a shag bag, fated to sit in our garage and never see the light of day again.
The lightbulb moment happened for us when it became difficult to navigate our way through the garage because of the piles of used golf balls sitting around.
Suddenly we couldn’t ignore the heaps of plastic waste.
We did some research online in hopes of finding a way to recycle these golf balls. Unfortunately, there was very little information on golf ball sustainability and recycling efforts, and even less on where to drop balls off to be recycled. This was when we knew we had to get involved.
We spoke to numerous experts and learned two things. First, solutions for golf ball recycling are currently not well developed. Second, there is a growing demand for golf balls of all qualities as so many more people have taken up the game as a result of the pandemic.
We knew what we had to do.
With some help from parents and mentors, we began Green Golf Impact, a youth-run organization focused on protecting the environment by collecting used golf balls, refurbishing and recycling golf balls, and ultimately growing the game of golf.
We hope you will consider joining us in our journey.
Sincerely,
Alexander, Jonathan and Stephanie Weinberg
